Hoi An’s Ancient Town made me feel like I was living a fairytale. If Disney were to do a live-action remake of the animated film Tangled this would be the location to do it! Floating lanterns drift along the river with the banks illuminated by hundreds more. Cars are forbidden in the centre, so that they don’t disrupt its peaceful serenity (mopeds like to break the rules though).

Taylor’s and shoemakers are at the artisan core of this beautiful city. It thrives on its rich heritage and the only sign of it being submerged in water just two months ago during a brutal typhoon is the flaking paint on French colonial walls.
